Remember history, honor our martyrs, stay true to our original aspiration, and keep our mission firmly in mind.
——Kunming Kelin Light Industry Youth League Committee’s Red Tourism Trip to Kedu
(This newspaper reports) To mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, the company’s Youth League Committee, in response to the Party Committee’s call to “study Party history, strengthen our convictions, and follow the Party,” and in keeping with the principle of “remembering history, honoring our martyrs, staying true to our original aspiration, and bearing our mission in mind,” organized a visit on May 15, 2021, for all League members and young employees to the Red Army Long March Kedu Memorial Hall—“Dangui Red Army Village”—for study and reflection. The Red Army Long March Kedu Memorial Hall—“Dangui Red Army Village”—was designated in 1992 as a provincial base for modern and contemporary history and national‑day education, and in 1997 was named by the Yunnan Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government as a patriotic education base for the province. Upon arriving at “Dangui Red Army Village” in Kedu Town, Xundian County, all participants posed for a group photo in front of the entrance, after which the company’s Youth League Committee held an awards ceremony to recognize outstanding League branches and exemplary Communist Youth League members for the year 2020.

After lunch, all participants visited the Kedu Memorial Hall of the Long March of the Red Army. Located in Dangui Village, Kedu Town, Xundian Hui and Yi Autonomous County, 72 kilometers north of Kunming and 85 kilometers from the city center, the memorial hall preserves key sites associated with the Central Red Army’s stay during the Long March, including the former headquarters of the Central Military Commission, the operations room of the General Staff, and the resting quarters where comrades such as Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Liu Bocheng, and Zhu De lodged while passing through Dangui Village, along with relics left behind by fallen martyrs. On April 28, 1935, the Central Red Army entered Xundian County, and on April 29 it issued the “Directive on Our Troops’ Rapid Crossing of the Jinsha River and the Establishment of a Soviet Area in Western Sichuan.” The following day, April 30, central leaders including Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Zhu De, Zhang Wentian, and Wang Jiaxiang took up residence in Dangui Village, making detailed arrangements for the forceful crossing of the Jinsha River. On April 4, 1936, comrades He Long, Ren Bishi, Guan Xiangying, Xiao Ke, and others led the Second and Sixth Corps of the Red Army on another march into Xundian County. On April 9, they fought the famous Battle of Liujia, repelling enemy pursuit, capturing ten county seats in succession, and successfully crossing the Jinsha River at Shigu Ferry near Lijiang.

The Long March of the Red Army was not only an outstanding military achievement but also a political movement of far-reaching significance. The arduous trials of the Long March forged the soldiers’ discipline and spirit of dedication, and the enduring spirit of the Long March remains a perennial theme across generations. It was a renewed awakening of our original aspirations and mission, and a fresh baptism in the red revolutionary spirit.

Through on-site visits and firsthand experiences, the young employees’ sense of honor, responsibility, and mission has been further strengthened. Moving forward, they will surely integrate the spirit of the Long March into their daily work, continuously carry it forward, and contribute to the country’s prosperity, social progress, and the harmonious development of the enterprise.
