At the end of 1970, I was transferred to Kunming Light Industry Machinery Factory. I remember that the factory was still under construction when I first arrived. The factory area was a few rows of cattle and sheep left over from the previous farm, and it was filled with early workers. My wife and I lived in a small attic of a farmer’s house in Puji. The downstairs is a pig’s nest and the attic is a wooden structure. Although it was Spring City, it was still quite cold when the cold wind blew in through the cracks in the wooden planks. We often wrapped our quilts tightly and fell asleep in the hum of the pigs downstairs.
