On April 20, 2022, the Zhongke Hechuang (Beijing) Science and Technology Achievement Evaluation Center convened a panel of experts in Kunming to conduct an evaluation of the scientific and technological achievement titled “Innovative Application of Stress-Resistant, High-Sugar Sugarcane Technologies on Low-Latitude Plateaus,” jointly completed by 15 institutions, including the Sugarcane Research Institute of the Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Liu Changzhan, Chairman of Kelin Light Industry, along with Vice General Manager Song Mingxin and R&D Director Chen Bin, were invited to attend the evaluation meeting.

The project’s outcomes, the result of 20 years of research, have advanced scientific understanding of sugarcane breeding and cultivation in low-latitude plateau regions, as well as of sugarcane pressing and sugar‑boiling technologies, yielding significant innovations in stress‑resistant, high‑sugar production.

Among them, as the primary participating entity responsible for implementing the project, Keling Light Industry has successfully developed large-scale (10,000‑ton‑per‑year) sugarcane crushing units and a comprehensive automated process control system (DCS) for sugar production, establishing itself as a national engineering research center for sugar‑making equipment at the world’s leading level. The company has also invented syrup filtration technology and implemented continuous boiling technology, achieving internationally leading levels in sucrose recovery rate, refined white sugar grade compliance, and the proportion of top‑grade products. Its sugarcane processing equipment technology is now exported to more than ten countries.

The participating experts reviewed the materials submitted by the project team and listened to the technical summary report. Following questioning, clarification of doubts, and deliberation, they unanimously agreed that the project’s achievements have been widely adopted across the industry, have made a significant contribution to technological advancement in the sugarcane sector, and have generated substantial economic and social benefits. Moreover, the overall technical level and key techno‑economic indicators have reached an internationally leading standard.
